Word 2003 slow when used from other apps

  Hi,
  
  has anyone experienced performance problems when an office application (Word 2003 in our case) is controlled by any other application (OLE Automation)? In our scenario Word is running on a Terminal Server (2003 or 2008) and for some users performance is most of the time very bad (but OK in other scenarios or when Word is used directly).
  
  The same application running locally or with other users behaves quite fine, though we don't see the major difference. We've looked at printer and network drives already...
