Can I restore files backed up from a 32 bit vista machine to 64 bit vista? Can I backup 64 bit vista? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just have a couple questions and am wondering if anyone would know the answer.   I just got a new machine and it is 64 bit vista.  I have used HOme Server to create backups of my old 32 bit vista machine.

Can I restore the 32 bit files, to my 64 bit machine?   I don't expect it to be a problem, just wondered if anyone has success.

If that all works, can I then set up home server to back up my 64 bit vista machine.

I am asking these questions because everything I have found says Home Server does not support backup of 64 bit vista.  However, everything I found was also from Power Pack beta's .

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

  • Yes, you can restore 32-bit files to 64-bit Vista and yes you can now backup 64-bit Vista. I did those exact things...

  • Yes, you can restore files to a 64 bit Vista computer. What you can't do is restore the state of a 32 bit Vista computer to a 64 bit Vista computer, i.e. restore all your programs, settings, etc. You will have to install those on the 64 bit computer. But data, yes.

  • Hi,

if you have Power Pack 1 installed on your Windows Home Server and have the matching Connector software on the client, you can.
