  • Hi Victoriage and sb.0326,

I had another thread regarding this (or a very simillare) issue.  We found that the below steps resolved that person's issue. Please give it a try and tell me if how it works:

    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc   (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection servive may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

  • I'm actually having the same exact problem.  Event viewer says something about the "License policy-cache has expired because it was not updated within expected duration."  Why does it keep doing this, happens everyday.  Is it perhaps because I have the Security Center Service stopped?

  • I tried to reactived through phone after I did this.

    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc   (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection servive may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

I called the number showed on the screen. OK. It turns out that the number 1-888-725-1074 belongs to some hotel. I do not know what is wrong here. Just so annoying!! The thing still keeps coming out!!

This is such a nuisance...  One thing to note however is when I opened the diagnostic tool the message disappeared.  Not sure if the tool does the same thing as if I had gone to Control Panel, Systems page and checks online and validates for me..

  • Hi Victoriage,

I hope your problem is solved already. If not, I think you can try to set the Software Protection service to start Automatic (Delay Start) in the Services of Control Panel.
I had this problem before and I did this operation. And for 2 days, no such problem now.

    I hope this helps.
