WHS 2011 \\server is not accessible. you do not have permission ... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.

I am no longer able to access my shared folders from WHS 2011 from my main desktop (Win7 home 64bit). Previously I had connectivity and pushed music files to WHS 2011 via Windows Explorer.

    tried fixes:

    1. Ran computer WHS 2011 setup.  Previously I accessed thru WE without the WHS2011 Dashboard, now have green dashboard sign-in on main PC, didn't help.

    2. Reset router UPnP settings.  I saw a post where ports 8443 and 443 conflicted, reset router UPnP, didn't help.

    3. Added homegroup

    4. Removed homegroup.

    5. Checked all folder permissions.  I have read/write access on.

    6. Tried all accounts.  Currently I only have admin and 1 user account on WHS2011 and neither works to access folders.

    7. Multiple reboots on desktop and WHS machines.

    8. Turn off Remote Web Access

    9. Turn on RWA

    10. Removed Lights-Out (only add-in)

    .

I am able to remote into WHS2011 via RDP/MSTSC.

The weird thing is during my testing WinMediaPlayer has popped up as if ready to play files from server but cannot access folders directly.  I can access my server thru Remote Web Access, but no direct folder access ...

WHS2011 and Desktop are using the same router via GB ethernet, physically sitting next to each other.

    .

    .

    11. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA    Modify on the Edit menu, type 1 restart.  Didnt work.

    12. Made sure user accounts have same name for PC and WHS2011.  Didn't help.

  • Did you verify, that time, date and time zone on client and server still match? If those drift away by more than 5 minutes, this can lead to authentication issues.

  • Date, time, Zone all match.

Currently both 11:38 03 July, Central time zone.

  • After further testing, I am able to connect with my laptop (Win7) and directly access WHS2011 folders thru WinExplorer.

Something I noticed though, my laptop is asking for name/passw and allowing me to change info if incorrect.

    .

My PC is denying me access without ever asking for name/passw.

    .

I am starting to believe that the issue stems from my PC.
