Background Intelligence Transfer Service

Question
-
Okay, let's try here since Microsoft pages are giving me nothing but headaches. I got what seems like a worm that is now dealt with. My firewall is down 'due to an unknown error'. Through Microsoft Essentials (also not working properly) I got here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-80070424. Here it states to find B.I.T.S, Windows Update, and Workstation. Neither Windows Update nor B.I.T.S were there. I followed instructions for Windows Update and that's now set. I can't get anywhere with the Transfer Service!! It wants validation to proceed, but the %@^$ing validation tool is an older version that doesn't work. HELP!! I need a CURRENT windows validation link or a way to download/install B.I.T.S. without validation.
Thanks!!

The validation engine cannot be updated unless the BITS service is operational -
You need to sort BITS out and then hopefully validate at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate, which will update the ActiveX control.
BITS is outside the purview of this forum - I suggest that you post in the Widnows Update Answers forums, here.....

where WU specialists can assist.

Hello simonizer77,
Your Windows installation was attacked by malware, your firewall is still not working and MSE is not working properly.
My suggestion would be to backup and offload your data and settings, do a bare-metal clean install or factory recovery of your Windows installation, install a top-quality antimalware solution, then restore your data and settings.
Finally, analyze what you did wrong that left you susceptible to the malware attack and fix that behavior as well.

Hey Noel!
I dropped in to copy/paste the link for the Vista GA forum into a post from a person in the Office Answers form who really has a Vista GA issue and not an Office issue.
Looks like things are pretty sleepy in the good ol' XP GA forum :-)

I think MS have been removing the links to the forums :(
There's more action in the Answers forums nowadays - and MS would seem to be training up MGADiag readers.
I wouldn't be surprised if they close all teh WGA forums come the launch of Win8 - there's still no sign of a new Owner for them, and there is no current moderator, either.
