Please Verify Validation Status of Windows XP Professional RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently purchased a used desktop computer with an installation of Windows XP Professional.  Upon trying to update Windows, I learned that the copy was not genuine and I could not do any major updates.

I purchased a sealed copy of Windows XP Professional Version 2002 (SP2) from a reputable seller online.  I do have the Certificate of Authenticity (COA).  I utilized the Activation Tool to change the product key to the key on my new copy of Windows XP.  Once the key was changed, I attempted to perform updates once again.  Unfortunately, I received a notification indicating that my copy of Windows XP is not genuine.

I ran the Diagnostic Tool and have pasted the results below.  Can you please verify whether my copy is genuine or not and provide appropriate options?

    Thanks.

  • Hello gburgalum01,

Your Dell OptiPlex GX260 computer has nongenuine Volume Licensing installations of both Windows XP Pro and Office Professional Edition 2003.

In the case of Windows, the Volume Licensing Product Key is Invalid, meaning it was made up by a pirating program called a Key Generator, or KeyGen for short--it was never issued by Microsoft, making ti invalid.

If I understand correctly, the installation of XP now on the computer is the one you purchased online to take the place of the nongenuine one that was on the computer when you got it.  Unfortunately, this replacement is also nongenuine :-(.  Please return it to the seller ASAP for hopefully a refund.

In the case of Office, the Volume Licensing Product Key is Blocked, meaning that this was at one time a valid product key, but due to it being compromised to the internet and widely pirated, it has been blocked from further use.

Does your Dell have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) affixed to it?  If so, what is the version and edition of Windows listed on it (do not post the product key).

Do you have any materials (discs, CoA, yellow-orange product key sticker, etc) for Office?  If so please describe but do not post any product keys.

  • Thanks for your reply. I do not understand how the Windows key could be generated. I purchased a sealed CD that included a disc with a holographic image on the front and was sealed with a short user manual. The Certificate of Authenticity was affixed on the plastic wrap and labeled "Windows XP Professional OEM Edition". It looks to be an authentic product.

  • Hello gburgalum01,

The installation CD says OEM edition but it installed a Volume License:

Validation Status: Invalid Product Key Validation Code: 8 Cached Validation Code: N/A Windows Product Key: *****-*****-KKR9C-4T299-FFMW8 Windows Product Key Hash: Wbc8OfiFN6HoTLeWj5kCApPjV+Y= Windows Product ID: 55274-640-3652354-23870 Windows Product ID Type: 1 Windows License Type: Volume Windows OS version: 5.1.2600.2.00010100.0.0.pro ID: {8C427B1F-17B8-4D32-9BF3-13511207ED28}(3) Is Admin: Yes TestCab: 0x0 WGA Version: Registered, 1.9.42.0 Signed By: Microsoft Product Name: N/A Architecture: N/A Build lab: N/A TTS Error: N/A Validation Diagnostic: 025D1FF3-230-1 Resolution Status: N/A WgaER Data--> ThreatID(s): N/A Version: N/A WGA Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 File Exists: No Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 WgaTray.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 WgaLogon.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002

Is the product key bolded above the same product key that is printed on the Certificate of Authenticity that came with the nongenuine disc?

You may want to have a look at www.howtotell.com specifically the counterfeit examples to see examples of how "good" some of the counterfeits can be.
