  • Bigbern,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Forum. Sounds like your problems are Windows Updates (WU) related and not Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA). If so this would be out of the scope for WGA. First let’s see exactly what is happening. Have you validated your Windows Operating system?  Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the "Validate Windows" button located in the upper right hand corner of the webpage. Follow the instructions provided after you click on this button. Next restart your computer once you have completed the Windows Validation process.  Now please try updating Windows. Was the updating process successful or did you receive any error codes or messaging reflecting Windows Update problems?

Next please run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage (MGA) Diagnostic Tool and paste your results back here in the forum. This will help us analyze what you’re experiencing so we may either provide you with a resolution, give you Knowledge Base (KB) articles for help, or direct you to another forum specializing with WU for assistance.  Please run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage (MGA) Tool by follow the directions below:

Download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.

Step 2 is telling us about the COA. Tell us:

    1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?
    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
    4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
    5. Please also provide a short description of the issue you are experiencing.

NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

    Thank you,

hope all the right stuff was removed. Its a dell and cam with operating system cd.

This thread http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43676 is a little similar 2 my problem. except i did a repair install hoping to fix corupt files and get IE7 more stable as i had some power cuts while pc was on. kept crashing or responding sometimes and  etc..

i did not use recovery console method chose install xp from boot menu and the next screen said did i want to try to repair , which is what i chose.

2/3's through it said i had a missing file (e100b325.din). managed to locate it on drivers cd  that came with pc. all when fine from there.

went to windows update and thats when problems began as simalr to above thread.

Did what the thread said and no joy

tried one of the methods here i think legitcheckcontrol

hope i havent got stuff i dont need now on pc, confusing the poor thing as its already confused after the xp repair install its like it had to personalities ;-)

example of this is i just noticed in the task bar that the yellow shield saying i have 85 upgrades to install too. click to install  and says some could not be installed.  Different from the above example at beginning i think. here what it say i couldnt install they are...
