  • The most common error at that point is misreading a B for an 8 (or vice-versa) - sometimes a Y for a V, or confusing C/G/6

Check closely using a bright light and a magnifier if you can.

  • You are trying to use the Default Product Key which can never be activated.  Try entering in the Product Key that is listed on your COA Sticker that came with your OS Purchase.

  • Right, NEVER post the Product Key that is listed on the COA Sticker.  Just use that number.  That is the COA Sticker I was referring to.  So re-enter the Product Key and use the one on your sticker.

while the startup error (actually a BIOS problem) you talk about can cause problems, it is unrelated to the Product Key issue, and can neither affect it, nor be affected by it.

Here's one possible solution to the OOA problem.

Please post another MGADiag report if it looked OK for a while then failed again.

  • The installed Key is the Default Key for Win 7 Home Premium - which can never be activated.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment),  using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

  • OK - try doing it this way instead...

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)

  • The most common error at that point is misreading a B for an 8 (or vice-versa) - sometimes a Y for a V, or confusing C/G/6

Check closely using a bright light and a magnifier if you can.

  • Done all that Noel there are two definite B's & one 8 tried B instead of 8 no joy  there's one Y and that's definite there are no C'S or G'S only possible chance of confusion was the letter Q tried 0 zero & letter O but they did not work said unacceptable character so it must be Q as I thought. There is one number 6 tried that as a G but it failed   It was all ok for 3 years but about october last year it decided it wasnt genuine windows 7 dont know how or why or what triggered it no one  has touched this laptop repair wise or anything cant get my head round it mate many thank's

  • Hallelujah i am so pleased to have cracked it with your help my friend  what look's like all capital letters & a b in the middle of e.g. MKXbW I typed it in what i previously thought was a six as a small b and the rest capitals it worked  don't know if there was a bit missing from the capital B to make it look like a small b or  what but it is o.k. now many thank's to all who helped cheer's :-)

  • Did you lose any of your info?

I am now having issues with same message and being told that I will lose all my data. I have a LOT of info after 4 years!

    Friday, April 18, 2014 1:45 AM
  • That message has NOTHING to do with your problem, from the sounds of it.

Please start a NEW thread of your own and detail the EXACT error message you are getting.
