Bought Windows 7 Ultimate and Office Pro 2010 Office is msdn and so might the windows 7 Ultimate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Carl

I have just built a new desktop and then made the mistake of buying software on ebay. (i didn't think I would win the auction) Anyway the office will not activate and while on the phone with Microsoft tech support I asked that they check the product key of the windows 7. I was told this to is a msdn version. This has activated but If i understand correctly I can be shut down or become non genuine? I am currently demanding a refund for both products.

Anyway I would like it if you could check my configuration and let me Know if the windows will also become non genuine. I have purchase this software from a reputable retailer.

  • Your Product ID line shows that you are using an MSDN product key, as you know already from your conversation with MS.  Obviously, you are not the subscriber.

    Windows Product ID: 00426-068-3472165-86776

The 068 is the MSDN indicator.  It is a genuine MSDN product key and so will activate and pass as genuine until it is blocked by Microsoft as an MSDN key in use by a nonsubscriber.  It takes a while for MS to detect and complete processing of abused keys but it is inevitable.

Continue to pursue a refund for an item not as described of course.

Do not accept a replacement product key from the seller.  It will be from the same source.  From your description of the seller he may not offer a replacement key.  He may have been sold counterfeit stock by a disreputable distributor.

Buy a copy of Windows from a rock solid seller like the Microsoft Store or Amazon Corp (not an affiliate).
