Migrate Group Chat Server OCS 2007 R2 to Lync Server Group Chat 2010 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Dears, Good Afternoon!

I am following the procedure below and I am not getting success in the migration of existing rooms in Group Chat OCS 2007 R2 to Microsoft based on the new Lync Server 2010.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg615442.aspx

Someone who has had this type of migration can give me a help.

The coexistence to work but when I stop the service from the Group Chat for OCS 2007 R2, management and access to the Group Chat rooms are unavailable.

I would like the cooperation of the masters of all time.

    I thank the collaboration.

    Regards,

  • I'm actually stuck in the same spot you are. I've put in a call to MS to see if they can shed some light on this since it isn't documented of how to migrate a side by side deployment of Group Chat. Only of how to do a 'static upgrade' migration.

I'm curious, have you attempted to move the OCSChat SIP account to Lync 2010? And then reconfigure the lookup service on Lync GC to use the OCSChat account? I know I've read some stuff stating there potentially needs to be some extra setup needed for the Lync GC client if you don't use OCSChat as the lookup service account... but I haven't found any supporting documentation as to what it is that needs to be configured differently.

  • Thanks, but I'm lost. Install GP 2010 on seperate server but use back old GP 2007 DB? is it what you mean? is it call migration? how about if the old DB hardware has no supported and need to be decommissioned ?

  • This is a more specific scenario, but basically this is what you should do:

    1. Backup database(s)
    2. Detach database(s)
    3. Copy the database to the newer supported hardware
    4. Re-attach database(s)
    5. Validat GC 2007 Functionality
    6. Once that is done follow the migration steps at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg615442.aspx
    7. Test??

If you do not wish to retain any of the settings from your OCS env ( Rooms, Permissions etc) then you can just create a new database for Lync 2010 and just use that.
