  • Question

  • My Dell laptops hard drive failed and had to be replaced. The repairer installed an OEM version of Win7 on the replacement drive rather than use my Recovery Disc saved on a cd and mirror on a USB key. I've therefore lost the Dell utility addons that came with the system. I'd like to reinstall the originall backup I made but I'm concerned about license issues as now my laptops version on Win 7 is registered as an OEM version and my original backup license is different. Can anyone advise me if I can reformat the HDD and use my original backups to restore my laptop to its original factory condition. Or whatever options are available to me. Thanks.

  • Your original version is also OEM :)

Perhaos we should have a look at the current state of affairs first...

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
     Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
      - **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
