Is changing processor scheduling from background to programs a bad thing for WHS? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm increasing using my server to do more than just serve files and backup PCs e.g. I now run DVBLink on my server to network my tv cards in W7MC.  I'm tempted to change the Advanced Performance setting for Processor scheduling from 'Background services' to  'Programs' as suggested in the post below, but I thought I'd better check first if this will break anything.

    Thoughts? Thanks

  • Try it and see what happens. Preferably in a lab environment rather than on your production server, since you have a rather large potential downside if things go horribly wrong. Not that I think they will, mind you, but ...

Better, of course, would be to let the server do what it's intended to do, and put DVBLink on more appropriate hardware, perhaps a home theater PC.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
