  • Hello Dellaine,

Regardless of Genuine status, Vista's Anti-piracy systems do not stop software from being installed.

You are receiving the message "installAation package could not be opened" because Vista could not, in fact, open the package.

Microsoft has no control over 3rd party software.  If an install package isn't written correctly or has become corrupt there is little Microsoft can do.

You may try posting your issue to one of the Vista Answers forum http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsvista and see if anyone else has a suggestion or has experienced/resolved the issue themselves (I suggest including, in your post, the name of the application you are trying to install)

Sorry I couldn't be more help,

In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the “Windows” tab, and click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in this thread.
