Vista Build 6002 suddenly not genuine

Question
-
I recently installed the latest updates on several work machines. After rebooting, Vista is suddenly not genuine. I tried to activate Windows, but after entering product key, I select the activate by phone option (these machines have never been nor will they ever be connected to the Internet). On the next screen, the Installation ID is missing. There is no way to activate without the Installation ID. I tried uninstalling the updates but the system is still in the same state. Please help!Tuesday, February 15, 2011 6:24 PM

And to answer your question, yes, I did re-input the MAK License using SLUI 3 and then it takes me to the activation page with a blank Installation ID. I also tried applying patch KB931573 and installing the System Update Readiness Tool. Nothing is fixing this issue. It obviously happened with one of the latest updates but I don't know the specific one and uninstalling all updates doesn't fix it. Please, please help!

I have seen the Blank Installation ID issue before. At the time, I didn't know how to fix the issue so I called up an Activation Call Center and asked them about it. The Rep I talked to told me that to fix the issue, just re-enter the Product key (Click the Start button, Right-click Computer and in the Window that comes up, click the Change Product Key button and follow the directions...when it asks for the new Product key, just enter the same key as is already being used).
If that does not work, then follow the Noel's advise and contact MS support that the links provided.
Hope that helps,

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

I forgot to mention...I also tried regenerating the license database with the following instructions:
1) Open an Internet Browser window.
2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
3) Find the file CMD.exe
4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
9) Type: net start slsvc
10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
11) Restart your computer twice.
12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate. After doing this, I'm still getting the same result. Once I get to the activate by phone step, the Installation ID is blank.

Please post your MGADiag report - without that we're just guessing.

These systems have no Internet access. I just ran the tool and it says Invalid License - although this is our volume license key that is valid. I will try to figure out a way to get the report moved to the Internet.Tuesday, February 15, 2011 8:14 PM

Copy the result to a notepad file, and then to USB storage or across the network.

I've never actually seen a 0x8007000D (Invalid data) error in the Product Key and Product ID areas before.I'm assuming you've already tried simply re-inputting the MAK License using SLUI 3 ??To me, this error smacks of registry corruption, possibly caused by malware. Our MS forum 'owner' Darin should be around soon - if not, hopefully he has a deputy who'll pop in.Otherwise, I can only suggest that you post in a more IT-centric forum (this one is more oriented to consumers) such as the TechNet one here .....

Darin,
People reported that your fix did not work. I found that after running the script, , rebooting, then I had to re-enter my Key (in the new key box) and then reboot 2 times again.
