Let's See: My Microsoft OneCare subscription renewal is due Jan 13th. The email (Microsoft Billing) says the renewal cost will be $49.95. Okay. Next, I go to the Microsoft OneCare website and the cost is (guess): Yes, $29.95. And not that I am going to check with every vendor, but.............Amazon.com is selling a fully licensed copy of Ver 2.0 for the princely sum of (guess again): $19.95 (all with licenses for three computers).
Now, guess what I am going to do (if I don't take the free - yes free, F-Secure platform from my Internet Provider - Charter Communications. Hey, wait, isn't Charter owned and run by Paul Allen??????
OneCare retail US pricing is $49.95. I can't verify the 29.95 pricing you see/saw from Microsoft, but that has been a special price offered from within OenCare to expiring subscriptions and trials. You can get OneCare for less from retailers, as you have found. You can renew using the retail key from a boxed copy. Do not unisntall OneCare, simply click renew and choose the option to renew with a PIN/Key. It will take 24 hours or more to update the subscription status in OneCare. -steveMicrosoft MVP Windows Live / Windows Live OneCare Forum Moderator
