'Windows Aero is not working' error

Question
-
When I try to run a game a window pops up with the following message and the game crashes to desktop:
'Windows Aero is not working
You may be a victim of software counterfeiting.
To use all Microsoft Windows features etc etc your copy of windows must be validated as genuine.
Go online and resolve now'
Upon going to the webpage, I am instructed to run 'net start slsvc' in command prompt. When I do, i get the following error:
'The software licensing service could not be started.
A system error has ocurred.
System error 53507 has ocurred.
The system cannot find message text for message number 0xd103 in the message file for BASE.'
I have tried to download and run the WGA diagnostics tool but it won't download from the page offered.
Help?
Thanks

Hi Tippo,
Yep, that's what I though, the issue IS occuring even when you are not playing the game. But when you play the game, the issue seems to be just more visible.
In Both of your Diagnostic Report it shows the error code "Validation Code: 0x80070426". This means that the Software Licensing Service has stopped. Vista uses this Service to check itself and confirm it is Genuine. When the servise is stopped, Vista is unable to confirm it's own Genuine status and usually this will make Vista flag itself as Non-Genuine.
But in your particular case, even though the Software Licensing Service is not running before you play the game, for some reason, Vista only becomes aware that the Service isn't running (and flags itself as Non-Genuine), only after you launch that game. Very strange, but the fix should be easy, just restart the Software Licensing Service.
Below are the Manual steps to Force Start the Software Licensing Service.
(NOTE: Once you type the net start slsvc command and hit Enter, if you receive any error, then, for some reason, Vista is not processing the command correctly and the issue is larger then just a Software Licensing problem. In that case, I would suggest contacting Vista core support at http://support.microsoft.com )
If you have acces to the Start button:
1) Click the Start button
2) Type: cmd in the Start Search field
3) At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe
4) Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: net start slsvc
If you do not have access to the Start button:
1) Click the option Access computer with reduced functionality
2) A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field
3) Find the file cmd.exe
4) Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: net start slsvc
Thank you,

Hello Tippo_89,
Please tell me a) What game you try to play when this occures? and b) Does the issue occure Every time you run the game?
In addition, when the issue occures again, please download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue" click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into a response message in this thread.
(Please ensure you run the report at the Same Time as the issue is occuring. Otherwise, the report will tell me nothing)
If you do not have access to the Start Button:1) Login to Vista and Click the option that brings up Internet Explorer.
2) Type: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 into the browser address bar.
3) A window will come up asking if you want to Run or Save, Select Run
4) When the program runs, Click the Continue button, then click the Copy button.
5) Return to this thread by Typing: http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3263545&SiteID=25 into the browser address bar.
6) In a reply post, Paste the Diagnostic Report.
Thank you,

Thanks for the quick response.
The game is World in Conflict and the problem occurs every time I try to run the game. This is the result of the scan I did as the game tried to run.

ok, now reboot vista, do not run the game and confirm the issue is not occuring.
Once you have confirmed the issue is not occuring, Run the Diagnostic Report again and post it, I want to compare the Report when the issue is occuring to the report when it is not occuring.
Thanks,
Darin

Hi Tippo,
Yep, that's what I though, the issue IS occuring even when you are not playing the game.
Thank you,
Darin Smith

As I said in my first post, I have already tried that fix and it didn't work. I have posted the error text I received. Any other ideas?
