[solved] Duplicate live desktop folders from new PC added to mesh RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm probably doing this wrong but here goes :

I synced a folder on my home pc giving it a different live mesh name (ie _Main on home PC added as RJP_Main). It synced perfectly with the live desktop.
Then i tried to sync the same folder (_Main) that exists on my office pc giving it the same mesh name (RJP_Main). The folders have the same local name (_Main) but are not in the same location (and the PCs runs differents OSes : XP and 7RC).
To my surprise live mesh created a second folder on the live desktop with the exact same name and has started syncing in both directions.

My question is : What is the proper way to sync two existing folders on 2 different pc's (starting with both folders having the same content) with the live desktop ?

  • The first half of what you did is correct.
When the folder is offered to the other devices in your Mesh, a blue folder will appear on the desktop of the other PC. Clicking on the folder brings up a dialog to select if and how to sync that folder to that PC. You can accept the desktop or you can browse to an existing folder of your choice on the PC and "merge" the contents. Live mesh will throw a warning if you choose an existing folder, but once you accept it, the desktop folder goes away and the local folder you chose becomes a Live Mesh folder.
To undo what you've done on PC 2, select to stop synchronizing the folder with each of your PCs from the Live Desktop sync properties for that folder. After that has been saved, you can safely remove the extra folder from the Live Desktop and any PC your synchronized the duplicate folder to.

  • What can i do "merge" the contents? Or What can I change location folder from My Desktop to my true(real) location on HDD.

I add folder on my Home PC (E:\_test1p2p). On my Work PC this folder locate in (D:\_test1p2). Blue folder appear on the desktop Work PC. But I can't change location folder on desktop. I rigth click on folder - "Live Mesh Options" - "Change sync settings" - field Location is blocked (is grey).
    And what can I do?

  • You can't change it after the sync settings have been defined, as evidenced by a solid blue folder on the desktop.

You need to first remove the relationship for that folder on that device and then add it back. Go to the Live Desktop and select the sync options for that folder. From the devices list for that folder, select "never with this device" for the PC you need to change.
    Save this.
The folder on the desktop of the PC should soon revert to a normal Explorer folder. Once it does, delete it or move it as desired.
Now go back to the Live Desktop and select the folder properties again and change it to sync with that PC. Once you save the new settings on the Live Desktop, the folder will be offered on the PC once again and it will be a light blue. Click it once and the dialog for setting up the sync options will appear. Rather than selecting the default location - the desktop, click the browse button to navigate to the folder you wish to merge it with. When you select that folder, Live Mesh will warn about conflicts - click OK and accept the new relationship. The blue folder on the desktop will disappear and you will see that the location you selected for the merge is now a blue folder.
