Windows 7 Showing as Not Genuine Anymore RRS feed

  • Question

  • I did my windows updates the college requires me to do on a regular basis, and when I turned my laptop on this morning I got "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of windows is not genuine" and "You may be a victim of Software Counterfeiting..." I've had this computer for years and it was bought from a legit store. Although, the computer has just gone under repairs to have the mother board replaced after it crashed.

I have downloaded malwarebytes and got rid of the infections it found. How do I return my computer back to normal?

BIOS valid for OA 2.0: no, invalid SLIC table

The problem is that your system is unable to properly read the BIOS SLIC table that should be present in the system to be able to self-activate the OS.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment),  using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

  • I have two different numbers, in my battery compartment and on the outside of laptop case. Neither of those work entering into the system.

  • You need the one on your COA sticker for Windows 7 HomePremium edition - 5 blocks of 5 characters

the error  0xC004F050 usually means that you've misread a character - either C/G/6 or B/8 or Y/V are the most common, an O/0 is almost always a Q

    Note that the following characters cannot be used - A E I L N O S U Z 1 0 - so don't bother trying unless you like the noise it makes :)

  • If none of those combinations work, how am I supposed to fix it?

  • Check that you have input the correct characters - get a friend to do it for you, or to read the numbers out as you type.

What exact error do you get when you try to type the Key, or hit the Submit button?

Post a new MGADiag report, and we'll take another look.

  • It says "The product key you have entered does not appear to be a valid Windows 7 product key. Please check your product key, and type it again"
