  • There is no folder duplication in Vail anymore.  That went away with
    DE.

    Yes.

Using a RAID solution would work as well.  I'm personally not wild
about running RAID for my WHS setup, but others might be.

  • Nancy,

If my memory serves me right, I haven't got Altziemers yet I hope, you signed up for the potential DE replacement stablebit beta a few weeks ago. In your email should be an email about a partial beta release. If not the link is:

Cost is also why I wouldn't use RAID, and it actually is pretty
limited when you want to add storage...

  • As folder duplication is gone with DE, there's a native solution wich run under every Windows since Win2k.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc737048(WS.10).aspx

You can use Dynamic Disk with a mirrored volume for the folders you need duplication, and put the other data on a second volume wich can ben spanned/stripped of the physical disk (carefull on data reliability with stipped/spanned, no fault tolerance!).

    The good:

-Unlike DE the volume are readable by any Windows. So you can take your drive, plug them on your Windows machine and recover the datas very easely

    - You can expand/shrink dynamic disk on the fly

    - You can add new physical drive and expland the volume on the fly

    The cons:

-Need to separate folders share on different volume. You'll not have a single pool like with DE &Cie

    -Windows only

-Less flexible than DE & Cie  (but way more than nothing or just RAID)

Yes, I did, Dave, but I didn't get an email, and when I went to the URL, I'm told I'm a stranger. :) So, I guess I'll just have to sign up and hope for the best.
