[I'm readying to set up a home server on a 64-bit system I have. I'm
anxious to make the move. But I don't want to cost myself lots of $$$. If
I start out with V1, I don't mind copying over data and rebuilding from
scratch. But I rather not shell out for V1 and then hafta pay full price
when Vail is released (hopefully sooner than later).]
[Any thoughts? Will MS offer an upgrade release for a reduced price? Or
should I just sit around and twiddle my thumbs until Vail goes retail?]
Go here
to get a 30 day trial of WHS v1. Hopefully, by the time the trial time is
up, we'll have new beta bits of WHS Vail.
As to whether WHS Vail will be available to us as software for a home built
system, it remains to be seen. I haven't heard anything yay or nay about it.
I doubt there will be an 'upgrade' simply because a 32 bit application
cannot be upgraded to a 64 bit application. WHS v1 is 32 bit only and WHS
Vail comes only in 64 bit. As an aside, it looks as if there won't be much,
if any, 32 bit stuff coming from Microsoft before long.
