RUNNING SLOW DUE TO PIO MODE

Some devices are running in PIO MODE( programed input/output mode) andneed to turn on DMA MODE(direct memory access) ?HOW? Where do i go to make changes and please tell me how. microsoft fix it gave me what was wrong, need to fix it so PC runs smooth without all the slowness.
