"windows not genuine" after repairs

Question
-
I purchased my laptop with Vista in November 2009. When the motherboard went out this summer, I brought it in for repairs, and a couple of days after I got it back, I lost access to the Start menu, all files, etc., and a notice in the bottom right of the screen says my version of windows is not genuine. I have put in the disk that came with the computer that says "Y510 Vista Drivers v3.1" on it, but the computer doesn't respond to it and I don't know what else to try.

Interesting report, that one - someone has gone to great lengths to hide the fact that the system is possibly no longer based on valid motherboard.Your problem is that the current motherboard doesn't have the correct 'bits' in the BIOS to correctly certify the OEM_SLP Key that it is currently using. You need to use the Change Product Key option in the System Properties page to change the product Key to that on the base of the laptop. (ASSUMING that the key on the laptop is for Vista Home Premium!).Once you've done that, you my need to activate by phone, rather than over the internet.
