I have discovered a bug and am wondering if there is a fix for it.
Say we have folder D:\FolderRoot\FolderChild syncing with \\192.168.0.1\FolderRoot\FolderChild and the root folders D:\FolderRoot\ and \\192.168.0.1\FolderRoot\ have the permissions set as "administrators; users;"
Now say D:\FolderRoot\FolderChild and \\192.168.0.1\FolderRoot\FolderChild have the inherited permissions as above but also added in the specific NTFS permissions for "NETWORK SERVICE" user with NTFS modify permissions.
If we set synctoy to sync the folder pair of D:\FolderRoot\ \\192.168.0.1\FolderRoot\ including subfolders, the files synced from FolderChild will NOT inherit the specific "NETWORK SERVICE" set on the child folder. It only keeps the permissions as set in the root folder.
This is a bug and I have been unable to find a workaround.
Is there any other Microsoft or 3rd party tool that will sync or copy files from one drive to another drive and copy the NTFP security permissions too? I can't find a setting in Synctoy for it to copy permissions.
