I recently removed the trojan Alureon, but have lost all my programs from the start panel. They seem to still be installed, and I would like to know how to get them to their previous state, including my system tools!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was able to relist 1 program back to the start panel, after uninstalling it and re-installing, but I want to have my system tools and other programs back to their original state, and am hoping there is an easier way to do so.  My pc has windows XP, 32 bit version.  I was able to remove this trojan using Microsoft Essentials, but I have no idea how it got there in the first place!  I am careful traveling the web, and was very surprised when I booted up and the attack was all I encountered.

Alureon is very difficult to remove, so the PC may still be infected, besides being in a broken state.

    Start here - https://support.microsoftsecurityessentials.com/

and select the link that says - I think my computer is infected - and then select the support option for phone, chat or email (options will vary by Region)

If you are in North America, you can call 866-727-2338 for free help  from Microsoft for virus and spyware infections.
