Windows Vista Upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • My computer came with Visat Home Premium. I purchased Vista Ultimate upgrade 2-3 years ago from Office Depot. I did not get any disc but was given a digital locker. Recently I had to re-format my Hard Drive. How do I get my Vista Ultimate ugrade back?

  • HI Carey,

I was using Home premium 32 bit and got the upgrade DVD for Ultimate. I have downloaded my digital license file from the digital locker for anytime upgrade . Yesterday i have successfully installed the ultimate . I have changed the existing product key to the Ultimate product key which i have found in the Ultimate DVD BOX and the activation is successful.

When i try to update the windows, its installing and configuring the updates , but then all the updates are failed when i see the installation history.

Why its happening. Is it coz of the product key or do i need to install the vista SP1  first?  Please let me know...I am not able to update my windows

    Thanks a lot

    Kind Regards

Once the windows is activated, no issues with the key right. Before the windows update, can i proceed for vista SP1?

  • Hi Carey,

I have upgraded my home premium to Ultimate and updated all windows update.

The i have tried vista SP1 ,  when its installing the stage 3 it was keep on rebooting.

I have tried to start in all the modes ...but it still doing the installation and restarting.

When i checked with my recovery disc, windows not showing any restore point.

I dont want to loose any data in the laptop ...So i didnt recover my laptop to its original state.

Then i tried to do the things in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358

I put my vista upgrade DVD and tried to do the 3rd step from the above link

when i do  On the System Recovery Options page, click Command Prompt.

    My system shows x:\sources

How can i do the Use the System Recovery options to rename the Pending.xml file and edit the registry:
