Hello,
The only supported way of migration is migrate 3.0 to 4.0, then 4.0 to 2011, then 2011 to 2013 and then 2013 to 2015.

Hi,
IIRC you need to set up a CRM 3 Environment which also can handle a CRM 4 installation and handle the upgrade from CRM 3 to 4 on that one. I thinkt that it nneds to be on a 32 bit version of SQL Server 2005. That step involves merging two databases into one ORG_MSCRM database.
After that you need to set up an Environment that you install CRM 2011 on, typically WS 2008R2/SQL 2008R2, upgrade the DB on that server, apply all the URs for CRM 2011, then do an inplace upgrade to 2013.
Next step is to install the target system, which I would recommend is the latest version that 2015 supports, backup/restore the ORG_MSCRM database on that system and you're good to go.

Start over with a new blank CRM 2015 and then only migrate the data you need. Might be faster and end up with a better result.Thursday, December 10, 2015 1:32 PM

True, but if there is a LOT of data with a LOT of references, you're in for a treat :)
