having trouble validating windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 that came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed.  I also have other Dell products with Windows 7 home premium installed.  The hard drive failed on my computer so I replaced the hard drive.  I had a Windows 7 reinstallation DVD from Dell that was provided with one of my other Dell computers.  I tried installing Windows using this disc but ran into problems.  I ended up using it as a system recovery disc and installed the image backup that I had done on an external hard drive when the computer was new.  I keep getting messages that the software is not genuine and I can't seem to resolve this issue.  The report shown below has the wrong product key in it; I have a different product key that is on the sticker attached to my computer.  I saw one suggestion about going into the windows activation and clicking on the "change product key" button but there isn't one.  In control panel, system and security, system, it shows that windows is activated, has a product key that is different than the diagnostic report and the product key shown on the sticker attached to my computer.  Here's the diagnostic report: Thansk!

  • I got it to work.  For other's benefit, here's what I did.  There was an article on PC World about installing Windows 7 without a disc.  Following those instructions, I downloaded a copy of Windows 7, made a bootable disc and reinstalled Windows 7.  I still ended up with the wrong product key even though I entered it when prompted.  I was able to change the product key to the correct product key and validate Windows 7.  Windows 7 is now working correctly with the correct product key and has been validated as genuine microsoft software.

  • This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers

try downloading and installing them from here - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194

    (you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

  • All that work, when a 1-minute download and install would have done the job :)
