Restoring without PC Restore disc RRS feed

  • Hi -

A feature that I would think be most useful is a way to restore backups w/o booting into the PC Restore disc.  Rather than using the disc, have WHS allocate/create a 'recovery partition' from the users PC (given if there is enough space & its not a RAID volume).  So this concept would be similar to Ghost Client / Server.  I think this feature would be cool also if users can start the recovery process from a remote location (I.E Helping friend recovery their PC to an earlier state w/o much effort).

What if your drive crashes?  Then the recovery partition you are asking to create is null and void...

  • I made a similar suggestion during the public beta, for much the same reasons you give. The issue another poster raises is a valid one, however, since the most likely PC failure mode that will make you want to restore from your WHS is probably a hard disk failure.

For restoring to a prior state, Windows has a feature that lets you do that now, albeit in a somewhat limited way.
