Removing device from my Mesh - what should happen? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • For the first time since I started using Mesh I have just removed (via Live Desktop) a device (a Vista machine) from my Mesh. Here's what happened:

    • Lots of Mesh folder shortcuts have been left on the device's desktop. Let's call them "residue".
    • All the folders that used to be Mesh folders still exist as normal none-Meshified folders

Now I'm not saying that behaviour is wrong but its useful to discuss what I would prefer to happen. Namely:

    • This residue left over on my desktop from when the device used to be Meshified should not be there
    • I would like the previously Meshified folders to disapepar from the device. I vaguely remember about a year ago that one of the purported benefits of mesh was that if your laptop got lost or stolen you could remove it from your Mesh and when the Mesh client was made aware of this it could delete the contents of those folders (I might be making this up - its only a vague recollection).

    Thoughts?

  • I don't expect *anything* to happen when you remove a device from the Mesh via the Live Desktop except that the device will no longer be authorized to connect to the Mesh as it will be an unknown device. Did you uninstall Live Mesh from the removed PC? That action should remove all of Live Mesh and change the "blue" Mesh folders to plain old explorer folders with their files. I would *not* want the Meshed folders to disappear.
Now, I'll state that I haven't removed a device lately, so I don't recall what exactly happens, but I think it happens as I've described it. :-)

  • I wouldn't want my files to disappear either.  I do see the benefit of having the ability to remote wipe a machine, but I don't think something a simple as removing a machine from the mesh should do it.

I would want the blue icons to revert.
