WHS locked me out on remote desktop console with error message: .. preventing Windows from accurately checking the license.. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am facing a strange problem with WHS as the server does not allow me to login in via remote desktop connection anymore. (WHS connector is working fine). The error message is "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0x80040057"

Further analysis shows that within the WHS connector, under Settings / Resources the system tells me that I am running a Evaluation Copy. Expires 9.12.2010. Well this would normally explain why I am locked out via remote desktop but I am running my WHS since 2008 with the same full license since my initial install plus latest power pack etc.

Any ideas why my WHS suddenly believes it is running on an eval copy? Any thoughts how to fix this without the need for a re-install of WHS? I really like to understand what happend especially before I will spend the effort and time of a re-install.

    Looking forward for good ideas.

  • Retry your connection, it's probably a temporary condition per this Microsoft support article, which was found by searching support.microsoft.com for your error message...
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
