Annoying Message Office XP activated but not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have personally purchased and operated Office XP Professional for several years now and just recently have been promtped each time that I open an Office application that my copy is not activated.  I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Office suite which appeared to activate successfully.  However, I still received the same notification from the Microsoft Genuine advantage tool.  If I try to "reactivate" the product by selecting Help, Activate Product I am notified that my product has already been activated.  I have tried to "validate" my product from the Microsoft Website which concludes that my product is not genuine.  I have the commercial packaging, CD case, product key, and associated literature.  I don't understand why my product status would suddenly change.

  • Hello Kapricous,

Occasionally Office XP will get into a state where it cannot make up its mind if it is activated or not.

Usually this is indicative of a damaged or corrupted Office license file.  This file is not deleted or overwritten when the product is installed or uninstalled, explaining why uninstalling and reinstalling had no effect on the problem.

Please follow the steps in this MS KB article:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275/en-us

Most people come back and tell us that running the MS FixIt utility in Method 2 did the trick.

Post back to let us know if it worked for you.
