Need help customizing an existing Field - Adding selectable options RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an existing field which I think I created, but I'm not sure. It may have been a system field that I renamed. I am a database user, not a technician and I don't have any tech help here, unfortunately.

    It's name = new_prospectfirm

    It's schema name = new_ProspectFirm

    It's display name = Prospect Firm?

    Type = Two Options

    State = Unmanaged

    Audit Status = Enabled

    Customizable = True

    Here is a screenshot of it and I will tell you what I want to do:

    I want to expand this to 5 options from 2, and change the Yes/No values. The Type, two options in the screenshot above is grayed out, so apparently, I cannot change it. I would be open to changing it to 7 values and leaving the Yes/No options alone for now, if that helps. I think I may not be able to fiddle with this now because accounts have a value in that field now.

    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    John

  • Hi John,
    the field is custom because starts with a prefix (new_ in your case)
    the type is two options (boolean field) and you can't add new values.

    However you can create a new field (type optionset, local or global depends if you need it in more entities or not) after you created the new field you need to update the existing record moving the value from the previous field to the new field. you can do this by export/import with excel or with a workflow or by CRM interface, depending on how many records you need to update.

  • Thank you very much, Guido. I am going to create new fields, and I will post a question about them before proceeding. I appreciate your post!
