managementexception error invalid class RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I am reading applications on various serviers and have a problem with some servers.  This particular one is a Windows Server 2003.

WMI Provider was manually installed using Windows Components on the machine that has a error.  It is definitely one that machine.

I am using Dim oApplication As New ManagementObjectSearcher("Select * From Win32_Product")  to retrieve the applications.  I get the error message:

    System.Management.ManagementException: Invalid class
       at System.Management.ManagementException.ThrowWithExtendedInfo(ManagementStatus errorCode)

why is that when WMI is there?

  • IIRC, Windows Server 2003 does not install the WMI provider for Windows Installer by default. You can install it from Add/Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components -> Management and Monitoring Tools.

  • It has been installed already, manually, as you mentioned.  I wrote in my question that the WMI Provider was there, but still I get the ManagementException error.  Any other ideas, please?

    Thanks!
