Whenever I access a download web-site that uses Validation Required and after selecting Alternate Validation method, GenuineCheck.exe is executed. This application continually crashes on instruction cpuid, preventing me from downloading anything from Microsoft.
This , I assume, library frunction is somehow causing an illegal instruction. I don't know why this validation must be performed for Windows 2000 systems (yes it is valid ... MSDN Universal subscription). I run Windows 2000 without a single problem until I have to download a package that needs to perform validation first.
Why is validation being done for a Windows 2000 system? THis only happened ever since Microsoft went wild and started front-ending all downloads with 'Validation Required' methods.
Regardless, thie use of the cpuid and/or rdtsc instruction should not cause ANYTHING to illegal instruction crash out. Something is not coded correctly for these instructions.
