    I am thinking about reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling  Windows XP, it is on 1 of 4 disks that came with the computer when I purchased it from Gateway back in 2002. My concern is the product key I have for the disc does not match the product key that is displayed when I check on my computer screen. I currently have XP sp3 from an update, does sp3 change the product key and will this present some problem when I go to reinstall XP. Thanks.  I know the original product key is valid because I used it about 4 years ago on a new HD when the original one died.

    If you have an orginal Xp OS disk, it will have a product key and it will work just fine.

    Before you do your clean install, burn  to cd everything you want to keep.

    After you do clean install, be prepared to install a lot of MS updates.
