Windows XP Pro (update disk)
I have had many problems trying to activate windows XP. I first started by entering my key in the "Activate Windows" program that pops up automatically on my XP computer. This did not work, so I downloaded Windows Genuine Advantage and went to their web site. I then tried out Windows XP Validation Advisor Beta and entered my key there, and on the site it was a match. So basically, according to the site my key is correct but on the activation on the computer it says it is incorrect. Any ideas to get it working?- Edited by Zach377 Monday, March 23, 2009 5:03 PM

Zach377,
According to the snippet from your mgadaig report, you are trying to install an HP/Compaq SLP license for XP onto a Dell Computer.
OEM Activation 1.0 Data-->
BIOS string matches: yes
Marker string from BIOS: 175BB:Dell Inc|175BB:Microsoft Corporation
Marker string from OEMBIOS.DAT: Compaq,Hewlett,Hewlett,Compaq
This is not going to work.
Please have a look on your Dell computer to see if it has a Certificate of Authenticity for Windows. If so, then the version and edition of Windows listed on the CoA is what the computer is licensed to run. If you contact Dell at the link below, you can order a Dell OS Reinstallation CD for that version and edition for your computer:

We request all users initially run the Genuine Diagnostics tool to try and identify the issue you may be having.
Download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.
Step 2 is tell us about the COA. Tell us:
1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
5. Please also provide a short description of the issue you are experiencing.NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

Good Morning Zach,
Thank you for posting in our WGA Forum. Curious who is the manufacturer of your computer? Also has the computer ever been turned in for servicing to a local shop or any other means?
Thank you,
Stephen
