Customer Portal - Event Management RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good day. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem with the 'Event Management' registration count field within a campaign. I have created an event which exists on the customer portal using IE9, submitted a booking which created a campaign response. I then checked the event details within the campaign, in particular the registration count field expecting it to display a value but it was still blank. I had already selected 'Manage Registration Count' before submitting the booking.

First of all should the registration count field actually work, if so am I doing anything wrong.

    Many thanks

  • I checked out an archive from a version 4.0 event management accelerator implementation we did for a client, and found the source of the problem.

There is a plugin in the 4.0 event management accelerator called CampaignResponseCreate, which does the management of event registrations and manages registration counts.

A similar plugin is missing from the Customer Portal implementation.

Not being a developer, I am not too sure how to take the source code from the event management accelerator and update it so it will work in CRM 2011 (all of the attributes the plugin deals with are the same in the customer portal implementation in CRM2011), but will ask our developer to take a look at it when he is back in the office.  If I get an updated plugin put together, I'll share it with the folks on the list.

I appreciated Shan's comment that a workflow would work, and it indeed would work if we were just incrementing new registrations.  However, the event module also deals with cancellations and waitlists which are handled by the plugin.

  • Where did you get your Event Management Accelerator for Dynamics CRM? Don't know where to get a good Event Management Accelerator.

    Thank you.

  • I just implemented the customer portal for a client in order to help manage events, and the manage registrations functionality is not working for me either.  I am going back to an archive of a project we did in 2009 where we used the CRM 4.0 event solution accelerator and manage registrations worked, and see how it was implemented there.  Will let the group know if I find anything interesting.

  • Have you tried to add a workflow in CRM that is triggered on campaign response create that reaches back to the campaign and increments the count by 1?

  • Very possible of course, but shouldn't the portal automatically do this?  Why isn't the portal working.

  • Tom, thank you for taking the time to review the accelerator in version 4 and identifying the problem. I am little surprised a plugin such as this is missing from the 2011 version as its a core part to make the solution work.

I was wondering how your developer was getting on with a fix for this?

I look foward to hearing from you.

    Cheers

  • Tom,

we use CRM 4.0 for this with the Customer Portal Accelerator. Would it be possible to use this plugin with the portal accelerator in conjunction with 4.0 as well as I think we did not get this with or installation either (installed around 1 month ago)? If so, could you give a hint where to get this as it does not seem to be part of the current installation package anymore.
