Off Topic: Using Vista with a new machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a question about Vista.

I recently won a copy of Window Vista Ultimate from the Windows Live Search club thing (solve word puzzles, earn tickets, get prizes, etc.) and I just got it in the mail today.

I would love to install it now on my current machine, but I plan on building a new PC in a few weeks. I know that when you buy an OEM copy of Windows from, say, Newegg or TigerDirect, you can only use it once. However, I've heard it's different with the retail versions, where you can install it on one machine, uninstall it, then use it on a different machine.

Am I able to do that with my copy of Vista? I'm pretty sure it's the retail version, because it's in the fancy case, and not the  sleeve the OEM versions come in.

I'm asking this because I don't want to go ahead and waste a good copy of Windows, then get my new machine and install it and have it say that I have a bad copy.
