Windows 7 compatibility - file modification dates RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is Windows 7 not compatible with SyncToy? I have Windows 7 Build 7000 (Beta) 64-bit and SynchToy reports all modification dates 8 hours too early (eg, a file with modification date/time 18:48:54 will be reported as 10:48:54. This of course makes accurate synchronization impossible. Oddly, only some (about half) file modification dates are reported incorrectly.

  • Hi,

We understand that because Win 7 is still at beta, there might be some open issues to investigate. While SyncToy should be able
to function on Win 7 beta, SyncToy does not yet officially support the OS, since quality needs to be assured before claiming compatibility.

I did a quick try on Windows 7 build, but I could not repro the issue.  I am aware that there has been a display issue on last modification
time not matching the actual LMT on FAT file system. My question to you is, is any of your folder within the folder pair on FAT file system?

    Thanks for reporting the issue,

    Patrick

  • A good point. I'm attempting to use SyncToy to synch folders on an NTFS hard disc with a FAT flash drive. Interestingly, it appears to be the modification times of the files in the NTFS folders that SyncToy gets wrong. I conclude this because another synch utility (LapLink Gold 12) reports that the times on the NTFS files are the same as the times on the FAT files and the times reported by LapLink are the same as those reported by Windows Explorer 7. SyncToy, however, reports times earlier (always 8 hours) for the NTFS files - though, as mentioned, only for some of them. Another peculiarity is that, though the NTFS files are earlier, SyncToy wants to overwrite the later file with the earlier file; ie, in the SyncToy preview window, the earlier NTFS file is defined as the source and the later FAT file is defined as the target.
