Problems installing files for Sharepoint Service Software Update Service Component RRS feed

  • Question

  • Step 4 of the software update service deployment guide (install files for Sharepoint Service Software Update Service Component) Item #1 states to log into Sharepoint Service with a local admin account. That was successful.  #2 states 'on the Microsoft website, doubleclick OCSSoftwareUpdateServiceSP.msi.  I don't find a link to the Microsoft Website on Sharepoint so I open another browser and download and run the MSI from there.  When I try to run the msi file, the error states ';could not access network location.  What am I doing wrong.  Have I not configured SHarepoint correctly?  Please advise...  THanks.

  • Are you loading the update service for OCS 2007 R2? This is no longer a feature requirement as it is integrated directly within the product. If you are doing this for R1 I would suggest migrating to R2. :) If that is not an option the link to the MSI may be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=889C542E-8B09-46C2-BD86-671C21668830&displaylang=en.

  • Yup! :) At the pool level of your server simply right-click and select 'Device Updater'. The setup/config/methodology is all the same but it no longer uses the sharepoint services. If you installed SE it made the share for you, if you installed EE this wsa one the required shared you created (OCS Updates). Let me know if you need anything else.
