Exam upgade to MCSE Cloud and Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I see on the learning site that you can upgrade any technology specific (Lync, Sharepoint etc..) with the 417 exam to a MCSA: Server 2012.

I am very interested in both the MCSE: Server Infrastructure and the MCSE: Private Cloud. So here is where my confusion sets in.

I see that 70-246 is released. Can I take the 70-246 now while I’m waiting for the 417 exam, once the 417 is out take that which will give me my MCSA in Server 2012 as I have my MCITP in Lync Server. I already have my MCITP in Virtualization and exam 70-659 can be taken in place of the 70-247 which would give me my MCSE: Private Cloud. Then take my 70-411 and 70-412 which will give me my MCSE: Server Infrastructure.

I just dont want to take the 70-246 before the upgade 70-417 exam if it wont count towards the MCSE private cloud.

    Thanks in advance...

  • You can take the 70-246 exam now and it will still count towards the Private Cloud certification.

  • You can't take an exam again if you've already passed it.

Exams can be taken in whatever order you like.

It doesn't matter which MCITP is used for the upgrade.

Already certified as a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP):
Enterprise Administrator or MCITP: Server Administrator?

You have already earned the MCSA: Windows Server 2008 certification. You
just need to complete Step 2 and Step 3 to get certified.

If you have your MCITP and you have taken 70-659 all you need is 70-246 to earn your MCSE Private Cloud. 70-417 does not have anything to do with earning your private cloud today. That test will allow you to upgrade your MCITP/MCSA Server 2008 to Server 2012

  • Ya but in order to get my private cloud MCSE i need my MCSA: 2012 as per http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-private-cloud.aspx

in order to get my MCSA: 2012 i need my MCITP: Lync Server and 70-417 as per http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-windows-server-2008-MCSA.aspx

I dont have my MCITP in Enterprise or Server Admin, i only have my MCITP in Lync and Virtualization. so my above question is asking if i take the 70-246 now will it count towards my private cloud for when the 70-417 is available? or do i have to wait for 417, pass it get my MCSA: 2012 then take the 70-246??

  • Thanks Mr. Wharty

This has been confirmed by MS? I have heard from verbal discussion this is not the case, thats why i asked on the forum. not a beliver of taking the exam twice if i dont have to :).  Also since i have 2 MCITP that can count towards the MCSA 417 upgrade, which one will they use? if they use the virtualization MCITP will the 70-659 still count?

Seems certification paths and upgrades are starting to get as confusing as licensing :)

    Thanks Again!
