multiple meshes RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it, or will it be possible in the future to set up multiple private meshes?

    Example
    - I have a personal mesh where I'd like to share my personal documents amongst my home computer, laptop and work computer
    - I also want to set up a mesh to share with all employees where we'd keep our work related documents
    - I'd like to set up yet another mesh with my dad, specifically for the remote desktop which appears to work through NAT/firewall without having to set up port forwarding rules, unlike RDP.  My dad always needs technical help, and it's always a headache trying to remote control to his computer.

Thanks, we are currently using Groove at the office for document sharing but it's a PITA to get people to install the Groove client and this would probably meet our very basic needs better.

    ---

update, I've just done some more reading on sharing folders and it looks like from that perspective, I can share different folders with different people.  I'm still looking for an answer to my last issue though.  I would need to add my dad's computer as a device in order to be able to remote control it, but I don't want to share files with him.  Really that's not what this application is designed for, so it's probably not possible, but sure would be nice :).

  • The ability to delegate remote control is already a feature request, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to add it to the wish list.

In the meantime, are you aware that live messenger lets you request help from someone else?  It requires one of you to have forwarded ports or a UPnP translator device, but its' dead easy to use.  And it lets both of you see and share control of the screen.

  • Hi Robroth,

As jordanmills mentions, the remote connection scenario you describe has been requested a few times in our Wish List sticky.  Please do add your vote for this feature by posting in that thread, as that is where we are keeping track of all the suggestions coming in through the forums.

    Thanks for using Live Mesh!

    Ben.
