Product Key Invalid RRS feed

  • Question

  • My system was preloaded and now I have this message to activate the program.  I looked through your questions and answers and ran a WGA Diagnostic and it says the product code is invalid.  This is what I read to do and I am hoping I can get a solution, I can access my internet however my system keeps running super slow now, not able to do certain things, forever to load things.  Out of the blue this just happened.  I bought the computer on August 1, 2008.  Why would this happen?  I have the product key from the bottom of my lap top if you need or advise what I do from here.

You are posting in the Windows XP forum - please repost in the appropriate Vista forum

Having said that - I have highlighted the cause of your problem

This makes me think that perhaps your Licensing store has become corrupted for some reason.
Please try the below steps to recreate the Store file.  This may resolve the issue.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate. Be sure to use the Product key on the sticker on the side or bottom of the PC (some laptops may have the sticker located in the battery compartment) To Activate, please use the Activate by Phone option.
