Window XP Problems RRS feed

  • General discussion

  •  I did not see a OEM Software or Product Information on the computer. It is is a Compaq Presario SR1820NX with Windows XP Home . A message appears stating my computer may be at risk because it does not pass validation. I go to the Windows XP Validation Advisor and it asks me to enter my 25 letter/number code. I do that and it says that I have not enter 25 letter or number even though I have. So i cannot go any further than that. I can use the computer but if I apply a wallpaper, it stays on there for a little while and it turns into a black screen.

  • Destiny,

Right now your Compaq computer has an installation of XP Pro, and this installation was done with a Product Key used for installations a hacked version of XP that converts XP Home installations into XP Media Center Installations, so that key was Invalidated.  MS most likely invalidated the key because it was generated by a non-MS Key Generator program, which seems to be the situation in your case.

Furthermore, if you search the forum for the part of the Product Key reported by the mgadiag utility, 9MT6X-PGKC8-J4JTM, you will see that over a dozen other posters have also been victims of that particular Keygen key.

The mgadiag utility is reporting that your computer is a Compaq computer.  The solution to your current problem is to use the Recovery Solution provided by Compaq with the computer to put the original shipping Windows XP Operating System back onto the computer.  Typically the Recovery solution is a hidden recovery partition on the hard disk drive, or a set of Recovery CDs/DVDs.  Typically, the Recovery solution erases all user data on the hard disk drive, so please be sure to backup and offload any valuable data before you run the Recovery.  You will want to review the documentation for your exact model of Compaq before you do the Recovery.

Finally, the installation of Office XP Professional and with Front Page on your computer is showing as a nongenuine installation, using a Blocked Volume Licensing Product Key.  If this comes as a surprise to you, please return to the place of purchase and demand the genuine software you paid for, or a refund.  Please remove this nongenuine installation of Office as soon as possible.
