Can't install WHS2011 Connector on Windows 8 GA RRS feed

  • Question

  • I try to install the WHS 2011 connector (CU3, all updates installed on the server) on my brand new setup based on Windows 8 GA (final version), also with the most recent updates installed (including the "big" update released yesterday). I tried multiple times before and now again to setup the connector. The setup works till the moment I have to enter the admin password for the server. The password is accepted, it takes some moments, then I get an "unexpected error". The time is set to the same zone and is synced, the password is just a "simple" password with letters and numbers only.

I looked into the logs and found that:

    [4592] 121010.131020.9944: ClientSetup: Validating User
    [4592] 121010.131020.9944: ClientSetup: Call MachineIdentityManager.GetMachineStatus

    [6680] 121010.131047.2087: ClientSetup: End of ClientDeploy: ErrorCode=1603

Any idea what I can do to get around that? My PC is joined to my office's domain, is this any issue?

  • So just to "Close" this thread, I found out that I have an issue with the certificate Service on my WHS Server. So it couldn't give out new certificates to the Clients, that's why I couldn't join new machines. Unfortunately there was no way to fix it so I took it as a good reason to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 Essentials. Now I'm a (more or less) happy user the most recent Version of the WHS experience...

  • Hi,

    From the error message below:

    [4592] 121010.131043.5773: ClientSetup: Task with Id=ClientDeploy.ValidateUser has TaskStatus=Failed
     [4592] 121010.131043.5773: ClientSetup: Task with Id=ClientDeploy.ValidateUser has RebootStatus=NoReboot
     [4592] 121010.131043.5773: ClientSetup: Exting ConnectorWizardForm.RunTasks
     [6680] 121010.131043.5929: ClientSetup: JoinNetwork Tasks returned TaskStatus=Failed
[6680] 121010.131047.1774: ClientSetup: Back from the Client Deployment Wizard
[6680] 121010.131047.1930: ClientSetup: Saving Wizard Data
     [6680] 121010.131047.2087: ClientSetup: End of ClientDeploy: ErrorCode=1603

You need to reboot the client to continue the Connector installation.

  • So I rebooted my machine, renamed it, unjoined the domain, everything didn't help... Same situation, same error. Windows 8 Enterprise RTM with most actual updates...

    Thanks,

    Thomas

  • Same here, can't make any progress. Getting this message:

"Cannot connect the computer to the server because either another software installation is in progress, or, the computer has a restart pending. Either complete the installation process, or, restart the computer and try to connect it again."

    Windows 8 Enterprise.

    Any ideas?

    Best regards, D.

Yes, do a search on this forum as it's been answered many times. Requires you to rename a registry entry and is normally caused by a Logitech WebCam installation not cleaning up after itself!

  • Thanks a lot, it seems this fixed it:

To work around the pending reboot issue:
    1. Open Regedit
    2. Find the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager"
    3. Rename the "PendingFileRenameOperations" value to "PendingFileRenameOperations2"

    Best regards,
    D.

  • Hello Thomas,

if you say, using WS2012E will solve my connector problem with W8, I'll follow my old teacher. ;-)
