This Windows copy is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I'm a student at university and I downloaded Windows 7 Professional x86. I had Vista on my laptop and upgraded to Windows 7. I put in the product key from MSDN Alliance and it says Windows not genuine. I tried everything with slui 4.exe and all that. It automatically just says Windows copy not genuine. Here's the result from MsDiag

  • I believe this is the Default (Keyless Install) Key
You need to change the Key to the one that came with your Windows 7.
To change the Key, use the link at the bottom of the System Properties page

  • I did. I went to my MSDN Alliance page and copied the serial number and pasted it in there. No success

  • MSDNAA keys are one-time keys.  You cannot reuse one.  You need to contact the program administrator at your school to obtain software and a key.  See

  • hellow,

I downloaded windows 7 throught Academic alliance, I activated it, and it worked fine.  Then my computers hard-disc was damaged, and I had to replace it. I reinstalled windows 7, and activated it with the same product key - now it tells me my copy of windows is not genuine.

Unfortunetly, my schools' program administrator does not know anything about computing in general, and MSDN AA in particular, so asking for he's help is irellevant - unless I can explain him exactly what I want him to do.

So what I ask, is could you pleas explain in more ditail what to do in this circumstances?

    thanks

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
      - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
