Windows Home Server 2011 - Can't connect , client software , unexpected error RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I installed WHS 2011 and could *not* get the connector software to complete.  I got the unexpected error on every computer I tried.

I tried messing w/DNS, static IPs and a whole host of other things.

MY problem was that I changed the workgroup of the server to the name of my home network.  Apparently that messes with the security certificate of the server and causes the connector software to fail.

***disclaimer*** It's possible that something else went wrong during install and the workgroup has nothing to do with the issue I had.

I reinstalled, exactly as I had before, and the connector software executed correctly the first time.

  • Changing the workgroup post-install is known to cause issues.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
