Not genuine? RRS feed

  • Question

  • At an estate sale of a deceased, I purchased a used Dell Vostro 220, which had Vista as the OS. I told a friend that I wanted to have the h.d. reformatted to “as new”. He recommended a local business technician, who, in turn, suggested replacing Vista with WIN 7 Pro. I said OK, without possible problems of authenticity ever occurring to me. Now I constantly get: “Windows is not genuine”; “You may be the victim of software counterfeiting”; “...did not pass genuine validation”; etc. Build 7601. Hard to believe that this technician would jeopardize his reputation.  I include Diag. Report. Help, please!

  • If the technician charged you for the installed counterfeit/pirated OEM SLP copy of Windows 7 Professional, he is obligated to correct his "mistake" and install a genuine "Full Retail" edition of Windows 7.  Example:  Windows 7 Professional – Full Version.  Your Dell Vostro 220 Series PC was manufactured in 2008 and is not eligible for the OEM SLP copy of Windows 7 Professional that was installed.
