It should work with a larger drive than the original. It won't work with a smaller drive. For best results, you should look for a wired PC Card NIC, rather than wireless.Friday, April 6, 2007 2:28 AMModerator

The 2nd compaq laptop that I was using for this test (Presario M300 actually has a Built in nic...an Intel 10/100 pro) but I am not using that for this test. Both laptops were using the 3com nic. What I may try, once I get the new harddrive, is swap the existing working drive from laptop#2 and put it into laptop#1. Install the replacement drive in laptop#2, perform the RESTORE of laptop#1's data onto it and then swap the drives back to their original hosts. The only thing I would be worried about is if the WHS data has the CPU identification number buried in it or some other security feature that would prevent taking and restoring data from one backup into another besides the systems name.

A recommendation...
There is no need to "ensure" your client PC's are running a compatible Storage Device or NIC. My solution (workaround), as family network administrator, was to dedicate a USB thumbdrive for client drivers and other WHS "Stuff".
The drive includes all the drivers necessary to perform a restore operation. I simply boot from the restore CD with the USB key inserted as well. The restore process has no trouble finding the drivers and completing the operation.
Much cheaper and less time consuming than limiting yourself to "supported" hardware.

I'm sorry, but this was never a place to request drivers, it was a list of the drivers included in the recovery CD.
To obtain the driver for the NIC Card I would suggest doing a Google search.

It's possible to connect to a WAP for a restore, however it's not recommended. Any momentary signal loss (which WiFi connections experience regularly) could result in a failed restore. And no, you will be unable to enter any security information, so you would have to remove any security from your WAP.Monday, July 30, 2007 10:01 PMModerator

The RTL8168 drivers do not work. They come up as being sucessfully found but they fail to find the WHS. Also the latest from Realtek directly has the problem as well. Other people would be on the wegotserved site have reported this as well. The specific model I have is RTL8168B. It came on a gigabyte board with a amd780g chipset. Unfortunately the other computer I have is an HP laptop dv9543cl. It finds the server but fails to complete the restore with another error. First, this is an excellent list! Congratulations on collecting it.
I have a question about the DJSVS driver.
Following helpful instructions found elsewhere I was able to use the DJSVS driver to get my old Epson Perfection 1200S scanner up and running under 64-bit Vista.
The first step was to get the Adaptec 2903B SCSI card recognized, and this was done by adding a line to the DJSVS.INF file with the hardware ID of the Adaptec card. Then, there was a search for some compatible driver for the scanner itself; nothing available from either MS or Epson (Epson wants to see new scanners).
My question is this.....the DJSVS driver was found within 64-bit Vista, so I just made copies of the two files, made my change and then installed it.
I'm experimenting with the Windows 7 RC, and found that DJSVS isn't included there. It was possible to use copies of those files under Windows 7, but what about people who may get only W7 in the future and not have a copy of Vista to copy them from?
Is there any equivalent to DJSVS in W7 which can do the same thing?
