Recommended Replacement for Windows Home Server 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello:

After searching for "best replacement for WHS11", I didn't find any good answers.  Since WHS 11 was discontinued, what server software provides image backups of client computers, and a nice dashboard that WHS11 provides for management?  I don't want to become a network guru just to install or run server software, and I don't have domains.  So, suggestions?

The disk drives that are now sold in new computes don't back up on standard WHS 11's install because they have some other kind of disk protocol not supported by WHS11.

    Thanks,

  • Not sure there is unless you are prepared to move to Windows Server. I use W10 as a Server for file serving, media serving (music & video) and as a Mail Server but still maintain 2off WHS Servers which are only used to back up clients and to mirror what's on my W10 Server.

As far as I am aware, there is no current problem with WHS2011 and new computers other than >2TB volumes. All of my clients are Windows 10 based (including a UEFI based laptop) and they back up and restore from my servers - do you have the UEFI Hotfix installed on your server?

  • Phil:

Thanks for the answer.  I do not have the UIFI fix.  That's probably why it doesn't recognize the drives.  I can search for that fix, and I'm assuming it's available from Microsoft's Support site.

    Thanks!
